From History Major to Brand Photographer: My Journey to Building a Life of Freedom and Creativity

When I was in university, knee-deep in history textbooks, I had my sights set on a career as a historical consultant. I was captivated by the stories of the past, the idea of shaping how history was understood and communicated. Little did I know that life would throw a few unexpected curveballs, leading me down a path that merged my love for storytelling with a creative, entrepreneurial spark I didn’t even know I had.

After graduating, I dove into a 10-year career with the Government of Alberta, navigating various roles in the Court Services team. I worked my way up to the Court of Appeal, where structure and precision ruled my days. But here’s the thing: I was craving something more. Something that allowed me to be creative, and that gave me the flexibility to live life on my terms.

So, I took a leap and transitioned into the private sector, joining a trades business (totally unrelated to history, I know) as a partner. While helping to grow RaeCor Enterprises, I kept feeling this tug—a call to start something of my own. And that’s when photography came into the picture (pun intended 😉).

At First, It Was All About Experimentation

At first, I shot everything—weddings, families, events—anything that would sharpen my skills and build my portfolio. It was during this time I discovered my passion for personal brand photography. There’s just something about merging creativity with business strategy, telling the story of someone’s brand through visuals that inspire action. I knew I had found my thing.

The Merge: Business Strategy Meets Creativity

What lights me up about brand photography is the chance to combine two worlds I love: business and creativity. Having built businesses and worked behind the scenes in government and trades, I understand the pressures and complexities entrepreneurs face. I’ve been there—building something from the ground up, navigating the chaos, and trying to stay true to your purpose in the process.

This deep understanding is what makes my approach to brand photography unique. It’s not just about snapping pretty pictures; it’s about strategy. I help entrepreneurs and high achievers like you translate your vision into visuals that connect with your ideal clients. Together, we build an authentic brand that reflects who you are and why your work matters.

Freedom to Be Mom (and More)

Another major reason I pursued this path? Freedom. As a mom of two boys under the age of two, my life is, to say the least, busy. I wanted the flexibility to run my own show, to be present for my kids, and to set the hours that made sense for my family. Photography gives me that. I can schedule brand sessions around nap times, balance business calls with park days, and still show up as the creative professional my clients need.

Every step in my journey—from being a history major to a government employee, from a partner in a trades business to a brand photographer—has led me to this exact moment. I’m grateful for the twists and turns because they’ve given me a unique perspective and the ability to merge what I love into a career that doesn’t just pay the bills, but truly fuels me.

For You, the High Achiever

If you’re a high-achieving entrepreneur who feels the pressure to do it all, I get you. I know the struggle to balance purpose, business, and personal life. I also know how empowering it feels to have a brand that truly reflects your mission and makes you stand out. That’s exactly why I love helping entrepreneurs in Medicine Hat and beyond tell their story through intentional, strategic branding photography.

Ready to elevate your brand? Let’s work together to create visuals that inspire, connect, and set you apart in your industry. Whether you’re just starting or scaling your business, you deserve a brand that reflects your purpose and passion.

Progress over perfection, always. ❤️
